I hope your July is off to a sun‑filled and skin‑smart start. I always look forward to summer travel, brunch on a patio, and walks with my pup. However, I also know that heat, sweat, and humidity present additional skin challenges. In past summers, I’ve seen eczema flare, acne spike, seborrheic dermatitis (dandruff) flare, and rosacea redden. I’m sure some of you have, too!
This month, let’s talk about how to stay cool, calm, and confident in your skin all summer long.
Why the Heat Sparks Inflammation
Blood flow + warmth = redness, which can worsen conditions like rosacea.
Sweat = salt + bacteria, which clogs pores, irritates, and fuels acne and eczema
Sun exposure flares up melasma, sun-sensitive rashes, and rosacea.
Friction + moisture, especially with summer clothing, can lead to chafing, folliculitis, or hidradenitis suppurativa.
Common Summer Skin Flares
Eczema: Reacts to salt and sweat.
Rosacea: Heat and UV are top triggers.
Acne: Excess oil and clogged pores get worse in humidity.
Hidradenitis: Moist skin+friction = breakouts.
Chafing: Inner thighs, under boobs, skin folds.
Sun allergies, lupus, and melasma: sun-induced discoloration, bumps, rashes, and hive-like reactions.
